Theme: "Present Notable Practices: New ideas for using technology to facilitate language learning and resource center management"

Business Meeting Highlights:
• Finances and membership stable.
• A new administrative officer was elected in the fall of 2004 however was unable to assume duties so the previous administrative officer continued.
• The usual fall meeting was not held in 2005 with a Spring 2006 meeting held instead.
• Plans are underway to hold a Fall 2006 meeting and elect new officers.
There were many new people at this MWALLT, so the Business Meeting contained considerable information about "who we are" and "what we do" for them.

Conference session schedule contains abstracts

October
2004
Drake University - Des Moines IA (Clayton Mitchell and Jan Marston) 25 attendees

Business Meeting Highlights:
• Heartfelt thanks were expressed to the Drake staff for all their hard work making the Fall ’04 conference so productive and fun. There were twenty participants including five from Drake University. There were six first timers in attendance and six states were represented.
• A budget report was distributed and the MWALLT bottom line is very good. Membership over the past two years is 80 unique members with 65 members in 2003 and 43 in 2004. Membership; seems to fluctuate depending on attendance at the MWALLT conferences and whether it’s an IALLT conference year.
• There were important issues to discuss but it was felt that since there was not a quorum in attendance, the issues should be put to the broader membership via email. It was decided that information on 5 major issues will be sent to the membership in October with the hopes of getting input and discussion. Then in November, voting or decisions will occur.

• Summary of the "Virtual Meeting"

Business Meeting Highlights:
• Marlene and Carly will send an email asking for newsletter submissions - abstracts from the conference
• We have $1600.00 in the bank which makes it easy to support conferences
• Thank you to Grant, Jessamine, Olga and Nanita - for hosting and helping!
• Next meeting will be at Drake University - Jan Marston and Clayton Mitchell hosting
• Discussed the idea of MWALLT funding a scholarship/grant. Get IALLT input on this. Keep the scholarship/grant amount in line with what IALLT offers.  Have the application and selection be handled via IALLT, but have the MWALLT grant go to a Midwest recipient. General approval from the group.
